The man charged with murdering Young Dolph was attacked behind bars.

Justin Johnson, who is facing first-degree murder in the death of the Memphis rapper, was assaulted by another inmate at Tennessee’s Shelby County Jail on Friday (March 18), his attorney tells TMZ.

Johnson was on a phone call in the jail’s visitation area when an inmate walked up and punched him. There is no word on a motive and Johnson was not severely injured.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office confirms that an incident took place Friday involving Johnson and a fellow inmate. An investigation is underway. There were no reported injuries.

Earlier this month, an autopsy revealed that Dolph was shot 22 times during the deadly ambush on Nov. 17, 2021. Two men reportedly got out of a stolen Mercedes and opened fire into Makeda’s Homemade Cookies in Memphis where Dolph was making a purchase.

Johnson, a rapper who goes by the name Straight Drop, was taken into custody after a manhunt in Indiana on Jan. 11. He shot a music video at the same Tennessee home where police found a white Mercedes, which is believed to be the getaway car used in Dolph’s murder.

A second suspect, Cornelius Smith, was arrested in Southaven, Miss. on Dec. 9 for an auto-theft warrant involving the same Mercedes. Johnson and Smith have pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and other felony charges.

Two other men, Devin Burns and Joshua Taylor, have been named as persons of interest in the fatal shooting.
