After rumors surfaced that he had passed away on Thursday night, the rapper’s manager and close friend, Steve Rifkind, took to Instagram to clear up the false information about his death that is spreading on social media while confirming that he remains on life support.
“Please stop with posting with the rumors,” Rifkind said in his video. “DMX is still alive. Yes, he is on life support. But it’s not helping anybody by seeing these false rumors.”
The family plans to release a statement on Friday, but in the meantime, he asked that the rumors cease. “Let the family relax for a night,” he said. “I’ve been with DMX for the past three years, so the only thing I ask is just stop with the rumors. He is still alive and he is on life support.”
Many celebrities prematurely posted tributes and condolences including T.I., Kehlani, Lil Nas X, and dvsn.
DMX was hospitalized last Friday after suffering a heart attack triggered by a drug overdose. He was deprived of oxygen for nearly half an hour, which severely impacted his brain. His family has gathered by his side at the hospital as they determine the next steps.
