The hip-hop community is rallying around DMX as he fights for his life.
While the Yonkers rap icon remains on life support following a drug overdose, Master P is reflecting on the circumstances surrounding X’s hospitalization and how people always wait until it’s too late before showing their support.
“DMX is an icon and I just hate that we have to wait till something happens to one of these guys, or to one of us, before everybody really start saying how much they care and they love [us],” he told TMZ.
“The truth hurts, drugs done killed a lot of our great ones and sent a lot of them to prison, and I’m praying for DMX and his family and I hope that people start celebrating these icons while they’re alive.”
The No Limit Records founder said more could have been done to help DMX, and called for hip-hop to form a union like the NBA Players Association. “What happened when a guy fall off after he done sold millions and millions of records, what happens? We need that,” said P.
He said the best way to stop such a tragedy from occurring again is to invest into educating the next generation. “We could prevent this,” he insisted.
DMX remains in a coma at White Plains Hospital in New York after suffering a heart attack triggered by a drug overdose. The prognosis does not look good, with sources saying he has “little brain activity.” His family has rushed to his side as doctors perform a series of brain function tests that will determine his outcome.
Despite the grave circumstances, Master P is still holding onto hope. “There will never be another DMX. He’s one of a kind,” he said. “I hope that God spare his life so he can be with us even longer.”
